The fish tail hair style is a fast easy braid that isn't your standard braid. It doesn't take much to do a fishtail braid either from the base of the neck, or from the top of the scalp.
From the Scalp:
If you are starting from the top of the scalp, part your hair down the center as you normally would wear your hair.
-Grab a small section from the crown of the head and brush it back.
-Divide it into two sections.
-Pull a strand from the outside left side to the inside right holding your two sections tight.
-Pull a strand from the outside right to the inside left.
-Now that you have it started, you will be gathering sections of loose hair like you would a french braid. Pick up a thin section from the left and pull it to the inside right section of hair.
-Pick up a thin section from the right and pull it to the inside left.
-Repeat last two steps until at the base of the scalp.
Starting at the base of the skull:
If you did not start at the crown of the head, divide your hair into two sections. Take the first small piece from the back left, crossing over to the inner right. Take the second piece from the back right to the inner left.
For everyone: repeat taking small sections from the outer left and crossing over to the inner right, and from the outer right to cross over to the inner left, all the way down to the bottom of your hair.
Tip: The smaller the sections you take the more unique this braid will look. Some people like to tug at the edges of the braid a little to give it some texture and dimension, others like the sleeker look.
